5/19/2008  Oasis Lounge Wichita Kansas, fresh freaking wings First off I went there for their cheeseburger. In 1989 it was voted one of the 10 best in the nation. It was a good burger, not the best, but good. Of course that list is 19 years out of date. I would highly recommend the Burger Station in Winfield as the best out there. Burger Station was a service station in the 1920's. Legend has it the owners realized after opening that Winfield only had one or two cars. So they tried serving burgers. 90 something years later they are still going. They can serve a burger "old fashioned" and it would be equally accurate to call them "original". About 20 years ago I gave them a picture I found in the archives at the public library. It was taken shortly after it reopened as a burger stand. There is a Model-T Ford sitting in front. It is a pretty good shot. So back to the Oasis. They used the standard buffalo wing sauce, which starts them at 50-50. They used fresh chicken. The chicken was pretty good. Fresh. Ever had fresh chicken? Or at least chicken that wasn't frozen and then shipped from 3 states away. There is a HUGE difference. Oasis got an extra 10 points for that one. Service was pretty good. We sat outside alone and the waitress still took care of us decently. Rest of the menu was pretty standard bar and grill fare. I do want to try their patty melt on another visit and will hit their buffalo wings again too. -Tusk Final Rank:80 Heat:50
