4/21/2008  Pizza Hut Buffalo Wings, they used to be awesome... OK I hate to admit this. I really do, but I will give props where they belong. Pizza Hut used to have really good buffalo wings. You note I wrote "used to". I'll get back to that. You have probably noticed that just about every Pizza Hut location has a Wing Street sign on it. Their parent company, YUM brands, has gone into hot or buffalo wings in a big way. I have tried several types and have liked them all. Let's stick to the taste facts first. We tried both the boneless and the bone-in. Buffalo Burnin' Hot - Pretty hot. A lot hotter than most places would ever offer to the public. (Wendy's used to have a really hot chicken sandwich, but so many people complained about the heat they neutered it) Also these buffalo wings have a great taste. Most that get this hot are just heat and no taste. Think of pure habenero sauce. Lot of heat, not a lot of taste. So these I would give a rank 80 and heat of about a 85. Cajun Buffalo Wings - A little bit of smoke in the flavor, celery, onion and bell pepper drive the wings flavor. Heat is a bit weak but seems to come from the bell pepper and not from Tabasco. Rank would be an 80 and the heat about a 40. Spicy BBQ - These were pretty surprising. They had a bit of sweetness and were hotter than we expected. These were the favorites. Everyone said they were a little hotter than they would normally like but that they still loved the taste. On these, 80 on the taste and 60 on the heat. So what is the problem? Well we ordered several times. Bone-in was pretty much consistent. Boneless was a different matter. The size of the wings varied so much that we never had a clue how many to order for a group. One order about half of these boneless wings were about the size of a quarter. So I did a little undercover work with a person in the kitchen. You know what I was told? "That is because the cooks pull out the big pieces for themselves." Yeah, OK. Sorry big guys, you are getting dinged hard on that one. You have any idea how annoying that is? Try ordering 30 wings for a group and get the equivalent of 10. It's embarrassing when you have been talking about how good they will be. Final Rank:30 Heat:70
