4/12/2008 Red team you're up!
Budweiser has a jingle from the 1970's that I can't get out of my head. Probably why I don't drink beer now. So anyway I was shocked when I saw a bottle of buffalo wing sauce bearing their logo. Next to it was a bottle of BBQ sauce with their logo.
The first question is simple. Are those guys not making enough money in the beer cooler that they have to branch out to condiments?
I would have loved to have been in the room when someone presented that in the boardroom with a straight face. It was probably a PowerPoint slide with the Jack Daniels Sauce and someone said, "We have to get part of that action!"
OK to be fair, this is a licensed product. To be honest, if you go to the trouble and expense you would think beer nuts or pretzels would be a little better fit for a major beer license deal. But that might just be me and I won't hold all this against the sauce. | |
Quick look at the label shows that it appears to be licensed but the ingredient list has a couple odd items. Water, vinegar are the first two. That always means a quality item.(sniff, sniff. Is that sarcasm?) Bud beer, ok I expected that. Milk. Say what? I hope it's at least cows milk. Wait a sec... How are they keeping the milk from curdling with the vinegar in there?
Taste is OK. Tastes like a standard buffalo wing mix of oil and Franks Hot Sauce combo with a little something extra. Which is fine, but I have that in the fridge already. I even have a couple bottles of the girlfriends favorite beer around. So far nothing special. It has bits of minced celery in it, creates an unusual texture. I don't mean that in a bad way. I mean it isn't the Sea-MonkeysŪ-like mouth feel of orange juice with pulp.
Next up, what it tastes like on a wing. Maybe it will do something special on a wing.
OK maybe not. It's not the worst thing ever, but not the best. I'm sure some would argue that it is an analogy for the beer as well. It sticks to a wing well, so that was good. A lot of oil-Frank combo's tend to run off the wing.
In the end, the minced celery and milk weren't enough to push it much beyond dead center. If you are using a bottled sauce, you could do a lot worse. -Tusk
